Holiday Home Interior Design – Dramatic discreet contrast and texture

Sometimes the designers get too preoccupied with mono-tone colors for carpets, sofas and matching curtains or all wood finishes. The contrast of colors can be pleasing to the eye if done well, especially if combined with textures on the furniture and accessories.

Some examples are the contrast of dark wood furniture with white or colored fabrics and texture ivory. Adding texture to the fabric or furniture also reduces the effect of contrast. A wicker chair or banana leaf with a pin cushion tweed fabric covered black is not as cold in a room in a black lacquered chair with cushions of white polyester.

Even the red color will not be as powerful if done in small splashes of accessories or pillows with texture patterns. A fabric provides a nap and synthetic chenille or suede gives a different shade of color each time you brush in a different direction, thus softening the color red in a room. Other textures such as embroidery, quilting and braiding can also soften fabric of contrasting colors.

Other ways to soften the contrast effect in the room by placing a good balance of nature in a room. A variety of plants can provide color and a more relaxed feeling to the room. Black or ebony finish
wooden furniture (not painted) is very well along with pieces of wood with a natural wood finish allowing the natural beauty of the flower to display. Ebony wood finishes along with natural wood finish is another
discrete form of contrast. Dry plants can also provide a feeling of being surrounded by nature and harmony in a room with contrasting colors.

“Harmony” plays a key role, much more than in a monochromatic color room. The participation rate or repetition of elements in a room is “harmony.” The best example is the placement of accessories and wall decor diagonally across the wall. Nesting tables or three sizes of the vessel, to facilitate the progression and help the eye to move easily from one place to another. A repeat and small-large-small and large sizes of images or pictures, particularly round or oval can provide a sense of
river flowing gently up and down, and gives a feeling of tranquility, even in a contrasting color room.

Do not be afraid of contrasting colors, and a spectacular room is good, but ask your designer how to put it all together is not cold, offensive or injurious to the eye. In fact, I suggest
sponsoring a small business that has its own art pieces, a purchase, and tell your designer that this is the focal point or a theme for my room. Let your designer to expand the color contrast of the piece on the subject of furniture and other accessories of the room. Remember, texture and harmony are key to success.
